The United States proved a fertile ground for the composition of song in the twentieth century.  Even more recently, in the new millennium, composers have cross-pollinated music and poetry to yield a bumper crop of brilliant work.  Six singers present song cycles written in the last decade, dealing with love, loss, memory, and hope.  Accessible and melodic, but still complex in concept and harmony, this concert is a must-see for lovers of art song and poetry alike.

  1. Cooman: Gold into Diamonds

  2. Ferko: Merton Songs

  3. Gordon: Too Few the Mornings Be

  4. Larsen: Jazz at the Intergalactic Nightclub

  5. Silberstein: Love’s Philosophy

  6. Musto: Viva Sweet Love

  7. Wheeler: Turning Back

The program will be performed twice: There is an evening performance at 7:30pm on Tuesday, October 25 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1218 W. Addison, Chicago; there is also a matinee performance at 3:00pm on Saturday, October 29 at Unity Temple, 875 Lake Street, Oak Park.  Admission is free for both performances.
