VOX 3 Collective is dedicated to exploring culture and the humanities in music.
The festival format is uniquely suited to exploring a particular culture or body of repertoire in depth. We are thrilled to present our second festival in Winter 2014-2015.
The Winter 2014-15 festival will be dedicated to investigating the literary ouvre of American writer Nathaniel Hawthorne, on the 150th anniversary of his death. His novels, like The Scarlet Letter and The House of the Seven Gables, are taught in classrooms across the country. His short stories reveal a particularly dark-tinged element to the Romantic movement, fixated on moral complexity and fallen humanity. Such atmosphere is perfect for opera – over 30 settings exist of The Scarlet Letter alone! Other contemporary writers from New England take center stage in a song recital, including a premiere cycle written to Hawthorne’s handful of poems. Finally, lest things become too serious or Puritanical, the ladies of the company are featured in a related cabaret with VOX 3’s signature blend of pop & classical styles. This winter, learn more about Nathaniel Hawthorne – while enjoying the sweet sounds of art song, opera, and cabaret!
- Art Song Recital “A Concord of Sounds” – January 18, 2015
The Winter 2013-14 “Music & Masquerades” festival featured a wide range of events, celebrating Denmark and its northern European neighbors. Thanks to a number of supporters, this acclaimed festival brought a unique body of repertoire to light and helped build bridges between cultural and arts organizations in the Chicagoland area. See more about VOX 3 Collective’s inaugural festival!
