VOX 3 Collective launches its sixth season with a program titled Schmaltz & Shenanigans: a fun, festive celebration of operetta.  Throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, these light, frothy, gorgeous melodies waltzed their way into the cafés and stages of Vienna, Paris, and London.  Now, our newest VOX 3 members will sing their way into the heart of Chicago.  The plots of these confections whisk us away to exotic lands, rife with romance, humor, and abundant musical treasures.  From the familiar Pirates of Penzance and chestnuts like “Dein ist mein ganzes Herz” to rare excerpts by Messager and Millöcker, this concert continues VOX 3’s blend of rare and renowned repertoire.

Enjoy one of this summer’s last afternoons al fresco, with a grand feast of song.  VOX 3 music director James Morehead leads a cast of VOX 3 members in this sampling of familiar and obscure operetta delights.  Join us for a glass of champagne and meet our newest performers following the September 16th performance.

Schmaltz & Shenanigans is performed Sunday, September 16 at 2:00pm in the rooftop performance space at People’s Music School, 931 W. Eastwood, Chicago.  The program will be repeated Sunday, September 23 at 2:00pm in the courtyard at Bethany United Church of Christ, 4250 N. Paulina, Chicago.  Concerts will be held indoors in case of inclement weather.  Admission is free.
